Hatfield Futures 2026: Meet the Teams

We are thrilled to announce the teams for the 2026 Hatfield Futures camp! We are so excited to welcome these young leaders to the Portland State University and to see what proposals for the future they come up with.

The school-based teams include:

Corvallis High School team: Agatha Patane, Juniper Ward, Cirelle Summerton, Naina Bhanoo

  • Topic: The Future of Driver's Education

Illinois Valley High School team: Annabelle Catterall, Jayden Conrad, Morgan Clark

  • Topic: The Future of Impoverished Youth

Wallowa High School team: Alba Braden, Gracelyn Foster, Elana Howard, Lily Witherup

  • Topic: The Future of Upcoming Generation of Teens

We have two teams of students from multiple schools within the Portland Metro area. These teams include:

The Ascent: Zak Elagrbi (Oregon Islamic Academy), Mohamed Eshtewi (Summit Early College), Farzin Kaderi. 

  • Topic: The Future of Immigrants and Refugees

Restoration Team: Ghalia Abduljawad (Oregon Islamic Academy), Laila Nouh (Cascade Virtual Academy), Maryam Momand (Oregon Islamic Academy)

  • Topic: The Future of Biodegradable Alternatives and Phytoremediation Solutions

And, we have three cross-regional teams of students from across Oregon who applied as individuals and will be working in teams with a statewide perspective.These cross-regional teams include:

Future Forward Team: Olha Polishchuk (South Albany High School), Emi Mackura (Glencoe High School), Anna Bigham (Glencoe High School)

  • Topic: The Future of Youth Safety and Mental Health

Cross-Regional Momentum: Katie Twist (Summit Learning Charter and Mount Hood Community College), Carmon Laney (Summit Learning Charter and Mount Hood Community College), Mercury Walden (Baker High School)

  • Topic: The Future of Support Systems in Schools

The Horizon Project: Sara Whitney (Summit Learning Charter), Brianna Naranjo (Madras), Elise Gomez (South Eugene High School), Emi Miller (St. Mary’s Academy), Lakshmi Sahasra Vutukuri (Beaverton Academy of Science and Engineering)

  • Topic: The Future of Houselessness

In addition to our student teams, the Helping Hands, counselors, Team Guides and OKT Team will be supporting this year's teams. They include:
